A Louisiana woman is facing theft charges after she allegedly used a false name to sell a horse without the owner’s permission.

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Livestock Commissioner Mike Strain, DVM, said that the LDAF Livestock Brand Commission received a report that a horse had been allegedly marketed on the internet and sold to an unwitting buyer by without the owner’s knowledge. At the time of the sale, the horse was boarded away from the owner’s residence. The owner became aware of the situation after seeing an online advertisement offering the animal for sale.

Livestock Brand Commission personnel later arrested Sarah M. Broussard and charged her with theft of property valued at $1,000. If convicted, she faces a fine, jail time or both.
