Winston-Salem, North Carolina, police have arrested one man and have obtained custody orders for three juveniles in connection with the shooting death of one horse and wounding of two others.
Earlier this month officers responded to calls from two horse owners reporting their animals had been shot in their pastures near the Muddy Creek Greenway. A previous caller reported that drivers of three vehicles were speeding in the area, endangering pedestrians and bicyclists.
Further investigation revealed that one horse had died at the scene, one had been wounded, and a third had been grazed by gunshots. During the investigation, police recovered shell casings from bullets allegedly used to shoot the horses.
On May 16, police acted on a warrant to search the home of Alonzo Cross. During the search they seized two shotguns, three rifles, a handgun, and various ammunition; all the firearms had previously been reported stolen, said, Lieutenant Michael Cardwell, of the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division
