A Colorado man has been charged with setting a barn fire that killed six horses earlier this year.

In April fire crews responded to four fires near Lakewood, Colorado. Three of the blazes, including a fire in a barn housing 10 horses, took place within a block of each other. Six of the 10 horses died in the fire while four others were rescued. The fourth fire occurred just over a mile away from the other three.

After an investigation, fire and law enforcement authorities ruled that the fires had been deliberately set.

On May 27, acting on a warrant, Lakewood and Denver police arrested Earnest Maynes in connection with the fires, and charged him with first- and second-degree arson criminal mischief and cruelty to animals, said Rob Albrets, Lakewood Police Department public information officer
