Carr Fire Forces Equine Evacuations in California

An undisclosed number of horses have been evacuated due to a wildfire that has incinerated nearly 100,000 acres in two California counties.
According to CALFIRE, the Carr Fire began July 23 when a motor vehicle malfunctioned and caught fire along a roadside in Shasta County. Dry conditions, shifting winds, and hot temperatures fueled the blaze throughout Shasta County, including the city of Redding, and Trinity County, prompting fire officials to issue mandatory evacuation orders.
Horses and other large animals were evacuated to the Redding Rodeo Grounds and the Tehama County Fairgrounds, in Red Bluff. Others were transported to properties outside the fire zone
