As of October 1, 1998, equine dentistry will be legal in Connecticut. Although illegal, equine dentistry has been performed in the state for years by non-certified veterinarians. With the passing of bill H.B. 5531 by the Connecticut State Legislature, “experienced” persons are now able to perform floating of horses’ teeth without violating the state law requirine a veterinary license to do so.

The bill will allow equine dentists to float teeth, but it specifies that extracting teeth and treating decay or tumors will still only be legally treated by licensed veterinarians.
