West Nile virus (WNV) has officially made it to Alabama. Jefferson County health officials reported on Monday that the virus was confirmed in two dead birds. There have been no human or horse cases confirmed in the state.

The Birmingham News quoted Dr. Carole Samuelson, Jefferson County Department of Health director.”This report is not unexpected, considering the reports we already have received from birds found in Georgia and Florida. It was simply a matter of time before we saw them in Alabama.”
