The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) announces the appointment of Elizabeth M. Santschi, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, to the board of directors as a director at large. Her three-year term will begin at the AAEP’s 47th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 24-28.

Santschi’s career in equine medicine includes experience in both private practice and academia. Since 1999 she has held the position of clinical associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Santschi was an instructor of surgery and an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine from 1994-1998, and an instructor of surgery at Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine from 1991-1994. She previously worked as an associate veterinarian and surgical resident for Peterson and Smith in Ocala, Fla., and as a solo practitioner in Hickory, N.C.

Widely published, Santschi is also board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She is an active member of the AAEP, having served as chairperson of the Pediatrics and Perinatology Committee; as a member of the Abstract Selection and Educational Programs committees; and as
a frequent presenter at the annual convention. Her other professional memberships include the American College of Veterinary Surgery and the American Veterinary Medical Association. A 1984 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Santschi is also a member of the Society of Phi Zeta
