Washington Officials Confirm Equine Wes Nile Virus Case

Brian Joseph, DVM, Washington’s state veterinarian, confirmed on Sept. 13 that a 2-year-old Quarter Horse gelding began showing clinical signs of West Nile Virus (WNV), including ataxia (incoordination) and colic, on Sept. 6. The horse was one of 10 exposed horses and is reported to be affected and alive.

According to the Washington State Department of Health, this case marks the state’s first equine case of 2019.
