The Connecticut Department of Agriculture (CDA) has confirmed three horses in two counties with Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE).

On Aug. 7, a yearling Friesian mare in New London County presented with clinical signs of recumbency (down and unable to rise) and unresponsiveness. The mare was reported to be undervaccinated with no history of recent travel, and was euthanized. Test results confirmed EEE on Aug. 20.

Also on Aug. 20, a 26-year-old Windham County Quarter Horse mare experienced clinical signs of neurologic deficits and weight loss. The mare had been owner-vaccinated in May and had no history of travel. She was euthanized and confirmed positive on Aug. 30
