While diets and nutritional requirements can vary from horse to horse, there’s one essential nutrient that all horses need: water.

Providing horses with constant access to fresh, clean water is essential, and there are multiple ways that owners can help quench their charges’ thirst. But which method do you prefer?

In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers where their horses get their water. More than 1,400 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 1,413 respondents, 936 (66%) said their horses get water from a trough or bucket that they fill manually, while 245 individuals (17%) said their horse drinks from a fully integrated automatic water bowl, hydrant, or trough. Another 112 respondents (8%) said they have a trough with an “add-on” waterer attachment (such as a float system) and 62 people (4%) said their horses drink from a stream, creek, or pond. Some 29 respondents (2%) said they have a trough or bucket with a timer attachment, and the remaining 29 respondents (2%) said their horses get water from “other” sources
