Animal health officials have quarantined two additional horses at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center related to the current equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) outbreak at the facility. One of the horses had an elevated temperature with pending EHV-1 test results and the other had an elevated temperature and confirmed positive for nonneuropathogenic EHV-1 via nasal swab.

Nine horses currently reside in quarantine at the equestrian center.

Since instating the quarantine on November 3, 2016, California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) officials  have confirmed six horses displaying neurologic clinical signs as positive for  equine herpesvirus myelencephalopathy (EHM, the neurologic form of EHV). Veterinarians euthanized one of the six horses on November 3  due to the severity of clinical signs.

All other confirmed positive horses remain in quarantine and continue to stabilize and show improvement, according to reports from CDFA
