Joining a fun day at the races, researchers from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will kick off 2013’s annual Zweig Memorial Trot with a series of talks on equine health. The Zweig Memorial Trot is a series of races for colts and fillies named in honor of Harry M. Zweig, DVM. Zweig was instrumental in the development of the Harry M. Zweig Memorial Fund for Equine Research at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine.

Talks will take place Sunday, Aug. 25, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Vernon Downs in Vernon, N.Y. Directions are available online. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. The Zweig Memorial Trot 2013 races begin at post time 6:45 p.m.

• Equine Hepatitis Virus Discovery and its Potential Importance to Equine Health—Thomas Divers, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, ACVECC, and Bud Tennant, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM
• Platelets and Herpesvirus Type-1 Infection—Tracy Stokol, BVSc, PhD
• Diagnosis of Poor Performance in Racehorses—Jonathan Cheetham, VetMB
• Alternative Sources of Equine Mesenchymal Stem Cells—Gerlinde Van de Walle, DVM, PhD
