A New Mexico man is facing multiple criminal charges for allegedly stealing 41 horses from multiple owners over a 12-month period.

New Mexico Livestock Board Area Supervisor Ray Baca said that between January and December 2011, a total of 41 horses were reported stolen from multiple owners in San Miguel County, N.M. On Jan. 13, following an investigation, Livestock Board personnel arrested Benny A. Padilla in connection with thefts, Baca said. Padilla was charged with 42 criminal charges including larceny theft of livestock, fraud, and impersonating a peace officer.

Padilla was unavailable for comment.

The investigation into the thefts is still ongoing, Baca said
