A trial date of Aug. 17 has been set for the criminal charges against J.C. Cutters Ltd. co-owner and manager Michele Goudie, horse owner Melissa Woicek, and carriage driver Frances DuPont, who have been cited under two City of Chicago Municipal Codes, 7-12-290b and 7-12-290i.
A separate issue is the ongoing fight for possession and ownership of the horses. Goudie and Woicek have asserted the six horses were illegally seized, while Chicago Animal Care and Control Operations Manager Mark Rosenthal has maintained that proper procedures were followed.
The temporary restraining order preventing the Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS) from finding homes for the five carriage horses remaining in their possession was issued May 1 for a period of six weeks. One horse was adopted shortly after arrival at HAHS. Attorneys for both J.C. Cutters Ltd. and HAHS were unavailable for comment or to confirm the status of the temporary restraining order
