A North Dakota State University Extension Service horse expert says several cases of equine herpesvirus (EHV) have been reported in North Dakota and surrounding states.

EHV leads to infections, and it’s common throughout the United States.

Equine specialist Carrie Hammer says if horse owners suspect an animal might have EHV, they should isolate the horse from others and call a veterinarian right away.

The AP story did not indicate what form of EHV the horses displayed. TheHorse.com will post more information about these cases when information is available
