Five thoroughbred horses died Mar. 1 after fire swept through a Clermont County, Ohio, barn.

Neighbors banged on the window of David and Patty Kinder’s Union Township home to alert them of the fire. By then, the barn was up in flames and David Kinder says all the horses were already dead. Union Township Fire Chief Stanley Deimling says the fire likely will be determined accidental.

The barn was valued at $15,000 and the Kinders say they couldn’t put a price on the horses. The Kinders owned one of the horses in the barn, while the other four were being boarded there by other owners.

Earlier this week, a barn fire in Goshen trapped several horses. Two tanker trucks from Harlan Township were called in to help put out the blaze in that incident. Firefighters were able to rescue the horses, but a baby goat did not escape the fire
