A horse trailer overturned near Belpre, W.V., July18, amazingly leaving six horses with only minor cuts. The road was closed for more than an hour as the accident was cleaned up and the horses were caught.

According to WTAP News of Parkersburg, the accident occurred around 3 p.m. Parkersburg’s Newsandsentinel.com reported that Sgt. T.R. Davis of the Belpre Police Department said, “A 1999 Ford F-150 driven by Jessica Yoho, 22, of Mineral Wells was southbound on Braun Road heading into town when the accident occurred. Yoho told Davis she felt the weight of the horses shift in the trailer, causing the tires on the right side to drop off the road.”

Yoho was unable to return to the road with the trailer. She and a passenger in the truck hauling the trailer were not injured. The trailer tipped on its side, while “the truck remained upright but sustained significant damage,” according to Davis in the newsandsentinel.com article.

Two of the horses were still in the trailer when rescue officials arrived. Yoho and the passenger had already gone about setting up portable fencing that was in the trailer and corralling the four loose horses. The fifth horse was easily removed from the trailer, but one of the horses in the trailer remained trapped because it was unable to gain foothold because of the angle of the wrecked trailer. It was extracted safely when a wrecker was brought in to tip the trailer enough that the horse could be removed, said the newsandsentinel.com article
