As you may know if you’ve been following this blog, the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, will be the first WEG in history to include para-equestrian competition. Para-equestrians are skilled horsemen and -women who have physical disabilities. (For more on the sport and what you’ll see at the WEG, click here to read my blog post on the subject.)

In the US, para-equestrians don’t receive as much support and funding as athletes in other equestrian disciplines. According to the United States ParaEquestrian Association, it can cost as much as $20,000 to send one American para-equestrian to the WEG
