AAEP Day 2: The Kester News Hour

I’ll admit it: I’m a bad scientist. I have very little interest in combing through the journals of peer-reviewed research to learn the things I should know. When my journal subscriptions arrive, I tend to find more interesting things to do, like cleaning the kitchen floor. But I still want to know what’s out there, where my profession is going. This paradox has made me love the Kester News Hour segment of the AAEP Annual Convention (so much so that I gave up a morning at Disneyland for it.)
Named for one of the founding members of AAEP, Dr. Wayne Kester, the Kester News Hour highlights the latest scientific papers in equine surgery, internal medicine, and reproduction. Delivery is everything, and this year’s presenters, Dr. Lisa A. Fortier (surgery), Dr. Pat McCue (reproduction), and Dr. Steve Reed (internal medicine) set up a rapid-fire information and banter barrage that was like a double-espresso for the equine practitioner’s brain
