Sunday (July 9) the coalition Americans For Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA) launched their website, https://www.responsiblerecreation.org, as a vehicle for Americans to express their support for public participation in decision-making about responsible use of our public lands and waters. One of the first issues on which concerned citizens need to make their voices heard is the proposed “Roadless Area Conservation” rulemaking by the U.S. Forest Service. Deadline for public comment is Monday, July 17, 2000.

“Every member of this alliance wants to protect our public lands and waters,” said Tom Crimmins, spokesman for ARRA. “But the American public needs to know that our ability to enjoy outdoor recreation may be thwarted if this rulemaking is implemented. This, and other access rulemakings, have deliberately circumvented the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the public input process, because the Administration knows the American public believes in multiple use and won’t stand for having responsible access to public lands denied
