The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Va., recently was awarded a $25,000 grant from Thoroughbred Charities of America. Grant funds are designated for building research facilities to enable collaborative research efforts to benefit equine health. The Equine Medical Center, located in Leesburg, Virginia, is one of three campuses comprising the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, a two-state professional school with major campus facilities at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and the University of Maryland at College Park.
Research facilities to be constructed on the Leesburg campus will facilitate greater collaboration among faculty and graduate students at the Equine Medical Center, the VMRCVM’s College Park campus in Maryland, and Virginia Tech’s Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center. The laboratory’s Northern Virginia location will also facilitate collaboration with other private and public research groups to promote the health and well being of horses in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond
