More than 30 allegedly maltreated equids are receiving rehabilitative care after being removed from a Harris Country, Texas, farm.

Julie Kuenstle, of the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said SPCA investigators and Harris County Sheriff’s Office personnel acted on warrants to remove nearly three dozen allegedly maltreated equids—27 donkeys, four horses, and a mule—from a property near Houston on June 13.

“The area where (the animals) were kept was barren and riddled with debris and there was a lack of fresh water,” she said. “The animals had no veterinary or farrier care.”

Rabbits, cats, and dogs were also removed from the property, she said
