Two Maryland horses have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV), the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported Aug. 30. These are the first confirmed cases of WNV in Maryland horses for 2018, according to EDCC data.

“The one horse in Anne Arundel County responded to supportive treatment and has recovered,” the EDCC said. “The other horse in Carroll County had severe neurological clinical signs (and) was euthanized.”

Neither horse had been vaccinated against WNV, the EDCC said
