Florida Horse Tests Positive for Both WNV and EEE

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) officials have confirmed a St. Johns County horse with both West Nile virus (WNV) and Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE). The 7-year-old Quarter Horse mare, which was reported as being undervaccinated, showed neurologic signs and was subsequently euthanized.

The horse is the first equine confirmed positive in St. Johns county for both WNV and EEE, and the state’s fifth equine WNV case and 27th EEE case in 2019.
