On Sept. 4, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) officials confirmed a 5-year-old Quarter Horse gelding in Collier County with West Nile virus (WNV). The affected horse first showed clinical signs on Aug. 23. Signs consisted of head tremor, hind limb weakness, and aimless wandering. He had been vaccinated.

This case marks the state’s eighth confirmed equine WNV case this year.
