The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) has announced an adverse analytical finding involving a prohibited substance identified in a reining horse.

The FEI said Shiners Chic, ridden by Great Britain’s Jessica Sternberg, tested positive for Stanozolol at the CRI3* competition in Katy, Texas, which took place April 20-21, 2017.

Stanozolol is a trade name for the anabolic steroid androstenedione, a banned substance under the FEI’s Equine Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations. The FEI Prohibited Substance Database says androstenedione is “banned worldwide from competitive use due to androgenic properties, which significantly affect performance.”

The athlete has been provisionally suspended from the date of notification (July 5) until the FEI Tribunal renders a decision. The horse has been provisionally suspended for two months
