A severely injured horse that was left for dead is recovering at a rescue farm in Oklahoma.

Natalee Cross, co-founder of Blaze’s Tribute Equine Rescue in Jones, Oklahoma, said Oklahoma City Animal Control personnel responded to a call for the removal of a dead horse, on Jan. 2. At the scene, they discovered a teenaged mixed-breed horse that had become entangled in a chain link fence, she said. The animal had sustained several injuries and was transferred to Blaze’s Tribute for treatment, Cross said.

“When he came to us he had been trapped outside for about two days in the cold and the rain,” Cross said. “On one side of his face, he had a jaw fracture, both upper and lower eyelids missing, and an ear missing.”

On the other side of his face, she said, the animal had lost most of his ear and sustained several scratches and leg wounds
