Dambala, a 15-year-old New Zealand Thoroughbred gelding owned and ridden by Emily Cammock (NZL), was euthanized April 26 due to an injury sustained the previous day during the cross-country phase of the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.

In an April 25 statement on her Facebook page, Cammock said, "After the second to last fence I felt something wasn’t quite right, and as we pulled up at the end of the course it was obvious we had a problem. It appears that the deep ground has proven too much for an old suspensory injury."

At that point, Cammock withdrew Dambala from the competition. The following afternoon, however, she posted on her Facebook page her decision to euthanize the gelding due to the severity of the injury.

Cammock told Eventing Nation that on the morning of April 26 the injured suspensory structure was offering no support, and she wasn’t even able to pick up his opposing leg. She also said she does not believe the slippery footing or the cross-country course’s design were responsible for the injury, Eventing Nation reported
