Authorities in Haywood County, Tennessee, are investigating the fatal shooting of one horse and the wounding of another.

Haywood County Sheriff Melvin Bond said deputies responded to a call from an owner who’d found that her horses had sustained gunshot wounds while in their pasture on May 29.

One horse sustained more than a dozen bullet wounds and later died of his injuries, Bond said. The other animal sustained a bullet wound to the face but is expected to fully recover, he said.
