French Show Jumping Mare Injured in Stall at Show
A champion show jumping mare was injured in her stall overnight at a 5-star event in Switzerland this month when a neighboring stallion escaped his stall.
Quismy des Vaux*HDC, the 11-year-old Selle Français mount of France’s Kevin Staut, was found the morning of June 7 with “numerous contusions, edemas, and bruises” and is “severely lame,” a report by Staut’s stables, le Haras de Coudrettes (HDC), said. Otello du Soleil, a 13-year-old Selle Français stallion ridden by Switzerland’s Romain Duguet, apparently escaped his stall and entered the mare’s box overnight during a competition at Saint Gallen. Quismy’s performance career is now uncertain, Staut’s team stated.
“This is most likely related to some sort of monitoring error,” Kevin Staut told The Horse. “We can’t say any more about it as there is no way to prove anything.”
Although the mare was mounted by the stallion, recent ultrasounds have shown that she is not in foal, Staut said
