Skin infections can cause varying degrees of discomfort in horses. | Alexandra Beckstett/The Horse

Equine skin infections can include conditions ranging from rain rot and scratches to Staphylococcus aureus and ringworm, which can cause varying degrees of discomfort in horses. In more severe cases, these conditions can cause lameness and might require veterinary intervention. Horse owners should have a thorough understanding of how these conditions develop and the best ways to manage their horses to prevent severe infections from developing.

To help horse owners better understand equine skin infections, Phovia Equine has partnered with TheHorse.com for Equine Skin Infections Awareness Week, starting March 4, 2024.
