McClure is Iowa’s First Specialist in Sports Medicine, Rehab
Scott McClure, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, ACVSMR, an equine veterinarian at Iowa State’s Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center, has earned board certification from the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is the first Iowa veterinarian to earn this certification.
For McClure who is also a board-certified equine surgeon, the additional certification is a perfect fit with his interest and experience with equine athletes. When asked why he pursued this specialty, McClure said, “The combination of specialties provides me with a unique insight into the performance horse and mechanisms to maintain healthy athletes to compete in their disciplines.”
For horse owners, this level of expertise provides their equine athletes with the latest diagnostics, therapeutic and rehabilitation techniques. But the expertise isn’t just for the athlete, horses with an injury or recuperating from surgery will also benefit from rehabilitation.
“We are delighted that Dr. McClure is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to our equine patients,” said Tom Johnson, DVM, director of hospital operations at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. “Dr. McClure is like many of our clinical faculty who continually strive to advance their training to better serve our patients
