- Topics: Article, Horse Industry News, Safety, Tack
Dust, mold, sweat, everyday wear and tear, and more can all impact your tack’s life expectancy. And let’s face it, tack doesn’t come cheap. Cleaning tack regularly not only helps your equipment stay in working condition longer, it also helps minimize potential contaminents and germs that could affect your horse’s health.
So how often do you clean your horse’s tack? Last week, we posed this question to our readers. More than 850 people responded and we’ve tallied the results.
Of the 870 respondents, 298 (34%) said they clean their tack only a few times a year. Another 203 respondents (23%) said they clean their tack after every use, while 160 people (18%) clean their tack weekly or every couple of weeks. Some 75 respondents (9%) indicated that they clean their tack on a monthly basis, and 65 individuals (7%) clean tack and equipment before competitions and events. Only 32 people (4%) said they never clean their horse’s tack, and the remaining 37 respondents (4%) cleaned their tack on a different schedule.
