Texas law enforcement authorities are seeking a Bastrop County man who allegedly tied a horse to the trailer hitch attached to his truck before dragging the animal 100 yards down an asphalt road.
According to a Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department affidavit, on Nov. 10, two witnesses contacted the Sheriff’s Office after finding a horse standing unattended in a roadway in Del Valle, Texas. One of the witnesses approached the horse and began leading out of the roadway when a man who identified himself as Mariano Resendiz Villafuerta arrived in a white Ford pick-up truck and took possession and control of the animal.
According to the affidavit, Villafuerta then allegedly tied the animal to the receiver hitch attached to the truck and drove off at high speed with the horse tied t the vehicle. The horse was unable to keep up with the speed of the truck, fell to its side and was dragged 100 yards down the street, the affidavit said. Villafuerta then allegedly kicked the horse in the neck until it stood up. The horse sustained leg and eye injuries and was stripped of its hide during the incident, the affidavit said.
Villafuerta was later charged with felony cruelty to animals. Villafuerta was unavailable for comment
