On Tuesday, Jan. 8, the New Bolton Center will present "Easy Keepers: Metabolic Disease in Horses" as part of the First Tuesdays Lecture Series at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa. The series offers the public open lectures on equine topics, at no charge, the first Tuesday of each month.

The lecture will be a presented in New Bolton Center’s Alumni Hall by Olivia Schroeder, VMD, Dipl. AVBP, a member of the Boucher Field Service at Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center. Schroeder will address common metabolic diseases in horses including equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID or equine Cushing’s disease). The talk will focus on diagnosis and management of these disorders.

The First Tuesday lecture series offers New Bolton Center an opportunity to share current information on topics of interest and relevance to horse owners and caregivers throughout the region. Upcoming lecture topics include eye cancer in horses (February), neurologic horses (March) and drug research and testing (April).
