Fire authorities in Palm Beach County, Fla., are blaming an overloaded circuit for a fire that claimed the lives of seven Thoroughbred horses and injured four more.

Capt. Albert Borroto, public information officer for the Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue, said that around noon on March 9, fire personnel responded to a fire at a barn near the Gulfstream Polo Club. Seven horses died as a result of the blaze. Four others were injured and treated, he said.

"Local veterinarians treated the injured horses for burns and probably (smoke) inhalation, "Borroto said. "I’m told they will recover."

All the horses were Thoroughbreds, all belonged to the same owner, and all were used to play polo, Borroto said
