Several horses are receiving rehabilitative care after being removed from a Madison County, Ind., property where the remains of dozens of dead animals were also found.

Maleah Stringer, executive director of the Animal Protection League, Inc. of Indiana, said that the animals were found on April 9 after the Madison County Sheriff’s Department received a call about the welfare of animals on a farm near Summitville. Animal Protection League personnel along with law enforcement personnel responded to the scene on April 10 and discovered 30 allegedly maltreated animals including nine horses, along with several sheep, rabbits, chickens, and one llama. All the animals are under Animal Protection League care, she said.

The remains of at least 100 dead animals were also found on the property, she said.

“There so many of them (dead animals) that we couldn’t count them all,” Stringer said
