A Pennsylvania breeder accused of maltreating Morgan Horses on her property was found guilty on 30 counts of animal cruelty last week.

In December 2012, humane authorities removed five allegedly maltreated Morgan horses from a Palmyra, Penn., farm; another 24 horses were later removed from the same property. Following their removal, the horses were placed in the care of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. The horses’ owner, Rebecca Roberts, was later charged with 30 counts of animal cruelty, one each for the removed horses and one count connected to the remains of one horse also found on the property.

A representative for Magisterial District Judge Lowell Witmer said that on April 10, Roberts was found guilty of 30 counts of animal cruelty.

Witmer sentenced Roberts to pay $27,353.68 restitution and $22,500 in fines, the representative said. Witmer also barred Roberts from owning or having contact with contact with animals for more than five years
