Virginia law enforcement authorities are hoping necropsy results will help determine what caused the death of one horse and severe injuries to another in Prince William County.

Prince William County Police Public Information Officer Jonathan Perok said that on May 3 law enforcement personnel responded to a report that two horses were down in a field on a Nokesville farm. A 10-year-old Thoroughbred-cross mare was discovered dead at the scene, he said, while the second horse, a palomino Quarter Horse gelding, had sustained severe injuries.

“His injuries were so serious that he was euthanized,” Perok said.

Both horses are undergoing necropsy, he said
