Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl, ACVS, a leading equine surgeon who suffered a head injury at Churchill Downs last week, could be released from the hospital May 10.

Bramlage was initially treated at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky., after falling from the back of a golf cart May 2 while in the stable area of Churchill Downs. Bramlage was hospitalized again May 8 for undisclosed reasons, according to the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, where he practices.

According to a tweet from Lexington, Ky.-based Rood & Riddle, Bramlage had a CT scan and was in stable condition May 9 at an undisclosed hospital. Doctors also switched Bramlage’s medications from intravenous to oral.

"If all goes to plan he will be checked again on Tuesday (May 14) to decide when he will be ready to return to Rood & Riddle," the facility said in a Tweet
