A herd of horses were brought to higher ground last weekend after water from heavy rains threatened their stable.

Milton, Ga., Deputy Fire Chief Mark Stephens said that on May 18, many parts of Georgia—including the Sandy Springs area, near Milton—experienced flooding as the result of heavy rains. Rainfall caused the Chattahoochee River to rise, bringing flood waters on to the Huntcliff Club and Stables property, in Sandy Springs.

“The stables flooded in 2009, so the owners wanted to be proactive and be sure that they got the horses out before the stalls were flooded,” Stephens said.

Milton Fire personnel helped evacuate the animals to an equestrian facility in Alpharetta, Ga., Stephens said
