Horses evacuated from the Green Valley community in Los Angeles, Calif., will spend the weekend at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster, waiting out the latest round of wildfires.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora said that the Powerhouse Road fire broke out early Thursday (May 30) morning. By Friday (May 31), the Los Angeles County Fire Department had ordered the evacuation of the Green Valley Ranching community, Mora said.

“There are a lot of large animals, including horses, in that area,” Mora said. “We’ve opened the Antelope Valley Fairground for their owners to bring them there.”

Mora said that because more evacuations are likely, it’s too early to determine how many animals will be evacuated while fire department personnel battle the blaze
