On Sept. 7, the Washington State University (WSU) College of Veterinary Medicine will play host to the first annual WSU Horse Course, a client education day for horse owners of all ages. The seminar is presented by the WSU Student Chapter of the America Association of Equine Practitioners.

Scheduled lecture topics include:

• The importance of dental care;
• Proper nutrition;
• What a feed tag can tell us;
• How to prevent foot problems;
• Vaccinations;
• Deworming;
• Emergency and first-aid care for your horse;
• Colic: signs to watch for and what happens if my horse needs surgery; and
• Toxic plants of the Palouse region.

Attendees can also take part in a veterinary teaching hospital tour, an equine endoscopic examination demonstration, an equine treadmill demonstration, a silent auction, and a child-friendly happy hour after the event at a local brewery.

The event will take place at the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PDT. The program registration fee—$30 for adults and $20 for children 18 and under—includes admission to all lectures and activities, lecture notes, breakfast and lunch, an event tee-shirt, and a goody bag
