Arizona Train, Trailer Collision Kills Horses
Two horses died this past weekend when the trailer in which they were riding was hit by an oncoming freight train.
Yavapai County, Arizona, Sheriff’s Office Media Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn said that on Nov. 11, Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of an accident at a rural railroad crossing in Paulden involving a train and a truck hauling a two-stall horse trailer. Upon on arrival, Sheriff’s personnel discovered that a the horse trailer had been hit by a freight train and was pushed along the tracks after the truck’s driver proceeded through the crossing in the train’s path, he said. The truck driver’s name was not disclosed.
"Although his truck made it across the tracks, the horse trailer did not and was struck by the train’s leading locomotive," D’Evelyn said. "The impact dislodged the trailer from the truck hitch pushing it along the tracks."
In addition to the two horses, a dog was killed in the incident. Another dog was injured but survived. The truck’s 71-year-old driver was not injured in the incident, D’Evelyn said
