British Showjumping Implements Microchip Rule

The rule requires newly registered horses and ponies competing in national competitions to be microchipped.

British Showjumping, the governing body for show jumping in Great Britain, has implemented a rule requiring microchipping for some horses taking part in national competitions, according to a statement from the organization.

"Effective from April 1, 2012, all newly registered horses and ponies competing in national competitions must be microchipped," states the rule, which was announced in late January.

Microchipping will not be required for horses currently registered with British Showjumping, the statement noted.

According to a Horse and Hound article, the new ruling is causing some controversy among potential registrants; however, British Showjumping stands behind the decision, saying it’s necessary to ensure horses competing are registered with the association
