NC State Vet School Offers Horseman’s Youth Day
Registration is now available for students who wish to participate in the popular Horseman’s Youth Day, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., March 6 at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Registration is now available for students who wish to participate in the popular Horseman’s Youth Day, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., March 6 at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
The day of equine-oriented activity combines education and fun and is designed to provide students ages 9 to 18 hands-on experiences with the anatomy, physiology, and veterinary care of horses. Participants will be grouped by age and will rotate through the College of Veterinary Medicine, visiting different activity stations.
Activities include:
- A behind-the-scenes tour of the large animal hospital;
- Instructions on how to perform a physical exam on a horse (live horse activity);
- A detailed study of equine anatomy in the college’s anatomy laboratory;
- How to tell a horse’s age by checking the teeth;
- Basics on preventative medicine to keep the horse healthy; and
- Basic lameness examination (live horse activity).
Participation in the annual event is limited to the first 125 students
