A Montana jury has found two men guilty of animal cruelty for starving and overworking three of their four horses during a pack trip through the Montana wilderness in the summer of 2008.

Curtis Heydon, 38, was found guilty of 10 counts of animal cruelty, while his father, Craig Heydon, 72, was found guilty on nine counts. This marks the second conviction for the pair from Georgia, who appealed the first judgment to district court last year. The Heydons will be sentenced on Wednesday.

Kathy Good, president of the Bitter Root Humane Association in Hamilton, Mont., said she is working with the prosecutor in this case to determine the cost of the care and rehabilitation of the Heydons’ horses. The humane society has had custody of the horses since they were seized from the Heydons in 2008.

"The judge indicated that restitution may be part of the sentencing," she said
