The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced March 25 that NTRA Charities has established the Barbaro Fund for Equine Health and Safety Research.

According to a press release, the Barbaro Fund for Equine Health and Safety Research will replace the NTRA Charities–Barbaro Memorial Fund and become the primary fundraising arm of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance for equine health and safety research.

The fund is named in honor of the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner who was euthanized as a result of laminitis. Barbaro was bred and raced by Roy and Gretchen Jackson.
