The case of missing show jumping stallion Capone 1 continues to fascinate, with the latest wrinkle being the admission by one of the stallion’s former handlers that she took the horse from his stable.

Corinne Super of Chilliwack, British Columbia, admitted to law enforcement that she took Capone from his stable on May 19, according to Douglas Spink, Capone’s longtime manager and trainer. Super was formerly involved in the stallion’s care and management as a breeding stallion during 2005-2006, before relations with Capone’s owners deteriorated and he was moved to Bellingham, Wash., in the fall of 2007.

Spink said he believes the stallion to be safe.

“We are not discussing his location right now, because if we did know where he is, (hypothetically, of course), and we made that known, he might be moved,” Spink said.

Spink said he is at a complete loss to explain possible motives behind the alleged abduction of Capone.

Whatcom County police officials have handled Capone’s case.

“Despite some serious political drama and the inherent ‘who cares, it is only a horse’ feeling when there’s so many other crimes out there, they’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty … they deserve enormous credit,” Spink said. “On a personal level, they showed a level of compassion with me … that was deeply humbling.”
