Charlz, the 17-year-old Arabian horse that became separated from his rider on May 25, continued to elude searchers this weekend.

Eight mounted volunteers from a local stable combed the Freetown Massachusetts State Forest on Sunday. Although no one spotted the horse, they did find evidence that he might still be roaming the 5,400-acre forest.

“They found hoofprints and manure consistent with a horse who had been eating the grasses and forage in the forest,” said Deb LePlante, Charlz’s owner. “But there have been no actual sightings since June 21.”

LePlante said she believes Charlz has been able to elude searchers due to the size of the area he’s roaming. But as time goes on, she’s not ruling out the possibility that someone might have already found Charlz and removed him from the forest.

In any case, she vows to find the horse.

“He’s my baby, I can’t give up,” LePlante said.
